OUR PRESIDENT'S PROFILE
Rev. L. Gerome Smith is the son of the late Deacon Louis Smith and Rev. Gloria M. Collins Smith Rankin. He is the husband of First Lady Arion Holmes Smith and together they have four beautiful princesses, Ava Leslie, Aria Grace, Alana Lauren and Amelia Gabrielle. He also is father to and life-long legal guardian of his niece, Geralyn Smith.
Rev. Smith earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Harvard University and both a Doctor of Laws Degree and Master of Laws Degree from Tulane University School of Law. He also received an Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from Christian Bible College, where he previously studied.
Rev. L. Gerome Smith was baptized at Guiding Light Missionary Baptist Church by the late Rev. G. R. Washington, Sr. on Easter Sunday, April 14, 1968. He accepted his call to the ministry and preached his first sermon at the age of 10 on October 12, 1972, was licensed at the age of 12 on July 21, 1974 and was ordained by the Ideal Missionary Baptist & Educational Association on April 18, 1996.
Rev. Smith is the founding Pastor of Resurrection Missionary Baptist Church, where he has served since its inception in 1998. Under his leadership, Resurrection has demonstrated the love of Christ through preaching, teaching, giving and service. Through his administrative skills Resurrection has grown, has weathered Katrina and COVID, has acquired and maintained valuable properties and is moving forward to build greater facilities, including offices and classrooms.
Rev. Smith has been active in several local church associations and currently serves as President of Cornerstone Missionary Baptist General Association and the Legal Parliamentarian of United Baptist Association, Inc. He is a past President of the Louis A. Martinet Legal Society of Greater New Orleans and has held offices in several divisions of the American Bar Association, the National Bar Association and the New Orleans Bar Association. Rev. Smith is recognized as a seasoned, skilled and competent attorney.
